Technical Support and Privacy
The Coworker team wants to support you every step of the way as you work towards change on the job. We strive to make sure our platform is easy to use and protects your privacy. Below is some useful information about using our platform.
Will you share any of my information or activity on the site with my employer?
Absolutely not.
Can my employer see my activity on Coworker.org?
Your employer can only see the information you make public—for example, the content of a petition you create, comments you leave on your or others’ petitions, and any updates you might post to your petition. When using our platform, exercise the same discretion you would on other social media platforms: avoid targeting specific individuals or sharing misinformation about your employer or coworkers. You have the protected right to advocate for changes to your working conditions.
Can I create a petition anonymously?
While you can create a petition with an anonymous account and pseudonym, we believe a key ingredient for a petition’s success is the willingness of you and your coworkers to stand up for yourselves openly, without fear or shame. For this reason, we generally recommend against the use of anonymous accounts or pseudonyms.
You may feel uncomfortable revealing your identity at first, but many petition creators find that once they have collected a substantial amount of their coworkers’ signatures they feel better about using their real name. As a petition creator, you have the ability to edit the name displayed on the petition at any time.
Who controls the data on the site?
While you are able to email your supporters through the website, privacy laws prevent us from sharing your supporters’ email addresses with you. The data collected on and through the site will remain our property.
If you are working with a Coworker partner organization, we can add an “opt-in” box or disclaimer language that allows petition signers to join your email list. Supporters who opt in give us permission to share their email address with your organization.
Can I cancel my petition at any time?
Yes. You can also temporarily hide your petition, if you’re not ready to launch or need to hide it from public view for whatever reason.
These options are accessible via the “Settings” tab on your petition. For more about managing your petition and the settings you have access to as a petition creator, check out the ControlShift support page here.
I no longer wish to receive updates on a campaign I signed up to. How do I unsubscribe?
We’re sad to see you go, but you can unsubscribe by clicking the “unsubscribe” link in site emails you receive.
What else should I know about Coworker’s privacy policies?
