Working While Black: The Past, Present and Future of Black Labor
MARCH 9, 2021 | COWORKER.ORG
The challenges Black people face in the workplace today are not new, they are rooted in a system that was not designed for Black people to thrive. This panel will talk about the history of Black labor justice, the urgency to fight the challenges Black people are currently facing at work, and the need to visualize and build a future where Black labor and leadership are centered, valued, and respected.
Recorded on February 24, 2021, the panel discussed the rich history of Black labor organizing with Tanya Wallace-Gobern (National Black Workers Center), the present state of Black worker organizing with Lawrence Humphry (Tech Can Do Better), and the future of Black labor organizing with a special focus on the possibilities of cooperative economics with Allison Jones (Common Future).
